Why do you like your yoga hot?
I find that the heat allows me to focus, be challenged, and stretch deeper. Once you step into the hot room, your mind instantly becomes focused. You are told to focus on your breathing to keep the body calm, to forget about all of your worries (like worrying about the heat) – and once you allow yourself to let go, your body will start to open up.
What are your personal tips for students of Bikram Yoga Sutherland Shire?
Never hold your breath. Focus on keeping breathing as normal as if you were walking down the street. Try to enjoy the experience! After all, it’s only yoga ;)
What is the best/worst thing about being a Bikram teacher?
The best- feeling inspired by your students and lucky enough to watch their own journey
The worst- your car permanently smelling like a sweaty Bikram room
What is your favourite pose?
Bow posture! I love how strong and centered I feel. When I am in the posture – nothing else matters
Word/Phrases you overuse?
Stretch stretch stretch!
What is your most embarrassing moment while teaching yoga?
There are probably some strange words I say and muddle up!
Do you remember what your first Bikram class was like?
Extremely hot and overwhelming. There were over 400 people in the room and temperatures reached over 50degrees, my hands started to cramp and I had to drink plenty of electrolytes after class!
Do you have a memorable moment with Bikram Choudhury?
There are many moments which are memorable, but I loved it when he called me out in class and referred to me as “miss bushy bushy hair” it was hilarious!
