Tony Sanchez Urban Retreat

Tony Sanchez Urban Retreat

I guess we have to start with who is Tony Sanchez? I first saw Tony in 2008, on the wall of my Bikram home studio in Darlinghurst, Sydney. As I stood in the long shower queue, dripping with sweat, I got to examine the dude doing the perfect yoga postures in the poster on the wall titled “Classical 84 Asana”. What an inspiration because I had struggled hard with the beginners class of 26 postures.

Tony Sanchez trained with Bikram in the US for 3 years in the late 70’s. In 1980 he went to the source of Bikram Yoga and got certified at Ghosh’s College of Physical Education in Kolkuta, India. He has been the principal instructor at yoga schools in San Francisco, in corporations and created award winning programs in secondary schools. He is the founder/director of the US Yoga Association and Yoga Physical Culture Academy. He has produced educational materials – videos, manuals and posters. He has led yoga trainings based in the Ghosh yoga linage since 1985.

Tony walks his talk and is a very authentic teacher. Carl loved all that he learned with Tony at his Core 40 training in Spain a few years ago. After the all the interruptions to our yoga practice over the past two years we decided it was time for a treat. Carl reached out to Tony and created a huge opportunity.

We are hugely excited to announce that Tony Sanchez is coming to The Shire in January 2023 for an Urban Retreat. Over 5 days we will build on the Beginners Core 26 postures and focus on the Intermediate Core 40 postures and also some of the Advanced Core 84 postures. We will also learn Tony’s Core Strengthening series and Qi Gong movements to complement the yoga training. This is suitable for students and teachers who want to deepen their practice with a living yoga legend! Contact the studio for more information or book via this link by paying deposit $330 to secure your place. Total cost is $1100 including GST.

Yin Autumn Master Class

Yin Autumn Master Class

What is Yin?

A type of yoga that is based Chinese Medicine Theory and Taost Principle (as opposed to the Ancient Indian System of health that Hatha Yoga like Bikram, Ashtanga, Vinyasa forms of yoga). There is a continuum of yoga that stretches from Yang to Yin. Very yang yoga would be Bikram and maybe Power Yoga which are hot and very dynamic and then at the other end of the continuum would be Restorative and Yin Yoga which are cool and slow with very different focuses.

What is a master class?

Our classes are usually 75 minutes long (Wednesday 4pm & Sunday 6pm) in a Masterclass we can go for 2-21/2 hours and there is a specific theme. A Yin class feels like it goes very quickly so that extra time allows for more postures and for longer time holds. You will have lots of props to use, get hands on adjustments and have all of your senses fulfilled. Smells, sounds, tastes are all in theme of the class. And finally you will get some of the Yin Theory too!

What do I need to bring?

If you forget/don’t own any of the above, we sell and also hire them:

Mat hire: $3
Towel hire: $3
Water: $3 / $5

Bikram In The Shire during COVID 19 Restrictions

Bikram In The Shire during COVID 19 Restrictions

Welcome back yogis! It has been a huge week re -opening our doors again after a 10 week lockdown.  Firstly a massive thanks to all the people who supported us during the lockdown. We did the pivot to online donation Zoom classes, opened a Go Fund Me account  and raised nearly $8,000 which helped us stay afloat. Apart from donations we also received many messages of support and encouragement, which was so appreciated by everyone in Team Bikram In The Shire.

We have officially changed our business name to Bikram In The Shire and we really feel this re-opening is our brand new start to the business. We have a vision to offer the good people of the Shire, access to world class 90 minute hot therapeutic yoga. This yoga works as preventative medicine and curative treatment. Bikram yoga is accessible to people who have injuries, chronic illness and is also amazing for enhancing all sorts of sports performance.

Due to restrictions on class numbers and the need to pre-book classes we have changed the booking system to a new company GloFox. Please search for Bikram In The Shire in your app store and sign up. It is advisable to accept Notifications and Emails as this is how we will be updating you as restrictions ease and we can start adding memberships and passes.

To attend class you must book and pay through the app or website. If you have to cancel class you must do so at least 3 hours before class start time and you will be given a credit to use for another class. If there are less than 6 people booked into a class 3 hours before then we have to cancel the class. If your class is cancelled then you will automatically receive a credit to book into another class. We are charging a cost price of $20 per class so that we can pay rent, teachers and bills.

If you want to do a class then please try to book at least 24 hours ahead of time. This all requires some planning and we appreciate that it will take something to adjust to this new system. It is the best way for us to manage our reopening in the fairest way possible. If you had a pass with some classes or time owing then that will be valid again when restrictions are eased.

Again thanks you for your patience and any questions then please email us.
